The Forged Curse v1.1.0 Update Progress

For the Finish Your Game Jam 2025 hosted by PIGSquad

The Forged Curse is a bump RPG originally created for the Summer Slow Jams 2025: Party last July, hooking it into Archipelago as the challenge to fit the game jam theme. Since then, we cleaned it up and released it directly to the Archipelago community.

To our surprise, we now have a small group of folks play testing and enjoying it. There was a request to include some options for logic that was discovered during play testing and now we are using this Finish Your Game Jam as an opportunity to focus on implementing these additions. Be aware there are some spoilers for the game below so if you are interested in playing the vanilla version of the game blind, play The Forged Curse here.

On the Archipelago side, we added two options to the YAML:

  • The Barrier Skip uses the Blink Rod or Grappling Hook and the White Key to access the Sealed Halls. This was found during play testing by the AP community. We didn't want to remove the ability to do it in game but we also did not want this to be default logic.
  • Damage Boosting was something we were aware of but did not want it to be part of the default logic. It's a no-brainer addition now that we have options working.

Our logic is statically stored so we also had to modify the code that populates and distributes the items to account for the new options.

In game, we added a couple grappling hook barrels that we had wanted to add to the New Moon Rotunda to make both getting the grappling hook more satisfying and to make traversal less tedious while backtracking or during a randomizer.

And finally, we added new info for Archipelago into the client compendium and cleaned up some small things that had been missed during the original game jam.

These options have not been tested enough to want to push a release, but you can find the most recent YAML and .apworld file on its github page. The new .p8 files (both vanilla and ap) have been updated in their respective locations.

My partner and I also worked on Rotat Park during the jam so make sure to check that out as well.
